Welcome, 2018 Interns!

The start of a new wedding season means a few things:

  1. An inbox that hits triple digits on the daily

  2. Cashing in on massage gift cards that have been collected for years

  3. Fresh, new faces joining the TLT team!

This year, we’re super pumped about #3 on the list. We’ve got two interns jumping on board to become students of wedding planning, to learn and grow as event planners, and to contribute fresh ideas and fresh energy to the TLT team. Our little studio is about to get a whole lot more fun!

Emily and Brenna are about as awesome as it gets, and you can read all about them here. We can’t wait for them to make a hugely positive impact on all we do here at TLT!

Meet Emily Butcher

Tell us about you.

Hi! I’m Emily and I live in Natick, Massachusetts with my older sister, my two parents and our yellow lab, Berkley, (who gets the most attention in our family). I have a second home in Chatham, Cape Cod where I spend most of my weekends and summers. I will be a senior at the University of New Hampshire this fall. I am majoring in Program and Event Management with a concentration in Psychology. I have always had a passion for working with people and expressing my creativity. Event management provides endless opportunities to work with a wide variety of individuals all the while helping to make a remarkable event possible. I have previously worked with an event planner and am determined that event management is a career that I would excel in! I look forward to helping coordinate and execute many more events with TLT.

What excites you about working for TLT?

When I was searching for an internship and summer job, I came across TLT. I found their charming and engaging website that I fell in love with! As I continued to look through the website, I found out they were located in Waltham, not too far from me. I value TLT’s passion for the small details and personalizing each and every event. After speaking with Alexis, I quickly realized what a breathtaking and successful company she created, which is something I hope to do one day.

What are you looking forward to most during your internship at TLT?

Working with TLT this summer will allow me to put the my skills to good use, but also to learn more about what it takes to be a remarkable event planner and designer. I am excited to see how TLT operates as a team, executes events and make each event different and memorable. As always, I am also excited to help provide a fantastic experience for our clients.

What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies?

Most of the time you will find me with my camera in hand, wondering the streets, beaches, and town taking pictures of everything in sight. Along side of my camera, you will often see me with a bouquet of flowers in hand. I adore any and all flowers and enjoy finding their uniqueness; I am a sucker for a beautiful flower arrangement and an amazing photos. If I’m not taking photos or looking for flowers, I’m shopping. Whether it is out shopping in stores or 10 open tabs on my computer, I’m always browsing! One of the more important ones, its hanging with my dog. Berkley is a 3 year old yellow lab, who is the center of our family! He is an avid attention lover, who loves walks, rolling around, swimming and playing with everyone and anyone.

What lights your fire? What inspires you?

There are so many things that inspire me on a daily basis. However, I truly enjoy seeing people happy. Often when people are happy, it rubs off on you, making you and everyone around you happy! I’m inspired to do that for our clients and vendors I’ll be working with. I enjoy event planning and management because it allows me to create happiness all around me — not only for our couples, but also our vendor teams.

What’s something not many people know about you?

Although I may be a girly girl, a shopaholic, and a flower lover, I enjoy a good fishing trip! I grew up on the Cape with my family and my father (who adores fishing). Naturally, I started to love fishing myself. I love getting up early, seeing the sunrise over the water, boarding the boat, and jetting off the Chatham shores to fish with my dad.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

I try to take people’s advice when I seek it, but some advice is certainly better than others! One piece of advice that has stuck with me is that “good things come to those who wait, patience is a virtue.” This advice really sticks with me, as I believe that not everything good in life is handed to you. It takes time to achieve what you want and find what you are looking for. It’s no secret that it timing is everything, but the timing is not always in our favor.  Its important to be patient, be persistent, and good things will come your way!

Meet Brenna McNally

Tell us about you.

I’m Brenna! I’m 22 and I’m from Derry, New Hampshire. I graduated in 2017 from an amazing little school in Westerville, Ohio called Otterbein University, where I studied Zoology and Conservation Science and played volleyball for the Cardinals. After graduating, I moved down to New Orleans for a few months for an internship at the Audubon Zoo. Since then, I have moved back to my hometown and have been exploring some other experiences outside of what I studied as an undergrad.

What excites you about working for TLT?

I was looking to move on to something new, something I would be excited about getting up in the morning for, and that’s when I found The Little Things. After exploring the TLT website and creeping the Instagram page, I felt it. I was excited. I felt like I had found an avenue where I could combine creativity and organization, and further develop my interest in design. I don’t have wedding planning experience, but I am SO looking forward to being an intern this 2018 season!

What are you looking forward to most during your internship at TLT?

I am really excited to play a role in bringing to life a day that is tailored to each couple. I love when a wedding is the perfect reflection of two people — their styles, their personalities, their love.

What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies?

If what I studied in college is any clue, I love animals. Dogs are my favorite and the camera roll on my phone will confirm this. (No shame.) I also have a passion for travel (a semester abroad in Australia my junior year really gave me the bug), and I have a long list of places I want to go. In the meantime, I enjoy baking, reading, DIY crafting, and hiking/being outdoors.

What lights your fire? What inspires you?

I’m a big fan of quotes. Those words that really speak to the soul, get you going, are-exactly-what-you-need-to-hear kind of quotes.

What’s something not many people know about you?

I love Grey’s Anatomy (just a little obsessed).

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Senior year, my favorite high school teacher gave each of us a copy of Robert Hastings’ essay “The Station”. If you haven’t read it, you should. I’ve kept mine all these years, and it hung on the wall in my room throughout college. The message is essentially to stop waiting for your life to begin, and instead find joy in the journey. As Hastings put it, “Life must be lived as we go along”. It is still the most impactful short writing I’ve ever read, and on some days, a much-needed reminder.
